Guitar prodigy bringing gift to the public

While his 7-year-old classmates were learning to puff "This Old Man" into a recorder, Nicholas Giordano was playing "Allegro Vivace" on the classical guitar.

He couldn't read notes and had never owned an instrument. Yet, a week after he picked up the guitar, the Oakland boy had memorized his first song.

Guitar Signed By DEEP PURPLE Auctioned For Charity - July 10, 2006

Mick Box of URIAH HEEP has collected a bunch of famous names in rock to sign a white Telecaster which will be sold on eBay with the proceeds going to a cancer charity. Among the people who signed the guitar is the current lineup of DEEP PURPLE and David Coverdale (WHITESNAKE, ex-DEEP PURPLE). Mick has also posted some pictures from the gig URIAH HEEP did with DEEP PURPLE in Bad Brückenau.

Discs ; IN STORES TOMORROW

Yorke's first solo album proves he's the brains, but not the brawn, behind Radiohead. Currently on a revitalizing world tour, Radiohead is reminding fans that rock 'n' roll lives with new, guitar-heavy material. At the same time, Yorke's "The Eraser" is an anti-rock album. It's high-art electronica pop, yet, unlike Radiohead's "Kid A" and "Amnesiac," there are enough hooks to keep even casual fans interested. Over a sonic palette of mostly blips and beeps, Yorke's unmistakable voice and poetic lyrics supply the diversity. Made up of laptop loops and synths, the political diatribe "Harrowdown Hill" and the love-gone-wrong title track exemplify Yorke's rare ability to craft pop without guitar, bass or drums. "The Silver Lining" (Legacy)

Grade: B-

The boys in Soul Asylum began their careers as nasty little Minneapolis alt-rockers palling around with peers the Replacements and Husker Du.

Rebecca Hoggan

But my real goal is to find time to get a haircut!

Rebecca Hoggan, 30, has been playing lead guitar and singing for Hit & Run Bluegrass quintet since 2002. A graduate of St. Catherine's School, Hoggan attended the University of Michigan and Berklee College of Music before heading out to Boulder, Co., where she now resides, to try her hand at making a living off her music. So far, so good. Hit & Run has racked up impressive accolades at high-profile festivals like the Telluride and Rockygrass Bluegrass Festivals, and Hoggan herself has earned critical acclaim for her flat-picking skills and vocal chops. .
